English Lesson : Than vs Then

We going have some English lessons here.

The English words than and then look and sound a lot alike, but they are completely different.

Than

Than is a conjunction used in comparisons:

Tom is smarter than Bill.

This is more important than you might think.

Is she taller than you?

Yes, she is taller than I.

Technically, you should use the subject pronoun after than (e.g., I), as opposed to the object pronoun (me). However, English speakers commonly use the object pronoun.

Then

Then has numerous meanings.

1. At that point in time

I wasn't ready then.

Will you be home at noon? I'll call you then.

2. Next, afterward

I went to the store, and then to the bank

Do your homework and then go to bed

3. In addition, also, on top of that

He told me he was leaving, and then that I owed him money

It cost $5,000, and then there's tax too

4. In that case, therefore (often with "if")

If you want to go, then you'll have to finish your homework.

I'm hungry!
Then you should eat.

The Bottom Line

Than is used only in comparisons, so if you're comparing something use than. If not, then you have to use then. What could be easier than that?

Universal truth?

I'm 26 this year. Let just say, I've seen the world enough to notice this one similar thing.

I'll try put this as simple as possible. In every teacher/trainer/coach/'sifu' and student relationship, it always seems that the student will excel better than their teacher(or whatever). Check out their coach and the athletes. Check out Simon Cowell. Can he sing? :) Olympics just over, check out the coaches and the athletes, isn't there a big difference? :)

The bible said something about this also. When Jesus was on earth, he brought up a few disciples. He said on :

John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
John 14:13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

So you see, God is governing the mankind. Not just Christians. He make this world to run in a set of laws, no matter you know Him personally or not. So are we meant to be better than our teacher? Yes of course. You just need to ask. That is just one of the perks of knowing God personally. :)

Just some thoughts

There is this 'game' called 'Lie detector test' on MIX.FM every morning. Ever since it started 'scandals' have surface thru the national radio, which is quite interesting actually.

NOTE : I didn't say enjoy seeing people falling, but I say it's interesting. Anyway that's not the point here. The point is this idea came into my mind. Why not strap both Anwar Ibrahim & Saiful to the chair? It is said the lie detector machine got very high accuracy(some say 100%). Instead wasting tax payer money and time. Right? Maybe through this test, it can ease the police in finding new evidence(reverse engineering, anybody? :) ). Instead of pointing fingers and swearing to the Quran and whatever, I'm sure this is a much more faster. And I haven't even touch on Altantuya case. So what say you? :)

Bila takut hantu ingatlah Tuhan

It's been sometime since I've posted here. A little update of myself, I've been very busy lately, busy with work, new house renovation and of course my humble wedding day. Woo.. very exited on what is coming around. :) Anyhow, this post is not about me.

There was this night where me, Abby and 2 of my friends were having dinner and was talking about spiritual world and ghost stories and about how some of us fear that kind of "thing-you-know-what". And in the midst of the conversation, Abby said something that caught my attention,

"When you fear of hantu just think opposite, think of Tuhan!"

And that is like the word of the truth at the moment. I burst into laughter but yet can't agree more on what she said. And I remember that there is a verse in the bible that says, "He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world"

So when you, anyone of you who have God in your life, there is actually nothing much more to fear because Jesus who is in you, is greater than the devil who is in the world. :)

And I heard a real story about how a non-believer of Jesus dreamt about a ghost/devil(whatever) that is oppressing her. Though its a dream but it felt so real to her and there is fear all over her. The funny thing is that she didn't cite the chanting that she practice in her faith but she called out the name of Jesus Christ. And she woke up from her dream feeling not fear but peace. Indeed,

...He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world[1 John 4:4]

On the other note, I got this link from an email. It really really cool link about Chinese characters and how it relates to God. Well, I can't really read or write chinese, but I do recognize a few of the characters. Very very cool link. Click here to go o the link. Enjoy :)

Lessons for the day

Got this from an email. There is a lesson we can learn here. Especially for the ladies. Enjoy :)

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.Suddenly , her husband burst into the kitchen.
'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once.
TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to
get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! Turn them! Hurry up!
Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the! salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!'
The wife stared at him. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?'
The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving .

This Too Shall Pass

There is a story about the richest and the wisest king in the world. His name is Solomon.
One day Solomon told his jeweler to make a ring for him. And the jeweler thought hard how to make a ring to the richest man in the world. It took the jeweler a year to make a ring for the richest man on earth. And finally he present it to Solomon. And Solomon took the ring and gave it back to the jeweler. And Solomon said "Now I want you to take it back and inscribe something on the ring that will be meaningful to all generations and all times".

And the jeweler thinks and ponders hard, what to inscribe on the ring for the wisest man in the world. And he takes the ring back and doesn't bring it back for a year. And he came to the palace and presents it to the king. And on the back of the ring, nobody can read it except Solomon, it says,

THIS TOO SHALL PASS

And Solomon asked "What does that mean?"
He answered "Solomon, when you get arrogant and proud and everything is going well, remember this, This Too Shall Pass, but when thing are going bad, and you feel that all hell is broken out against you, people don't like you, and all the decisions going wrong and look back of the ring and you will remember, This Too Shall Pass".

Points to ponder :- How many of you know that it came to pass? It came about just so it can pass?

Think about it :)

The Cracked Pot

Found this story on the net, some body forwards it to me. Some of you might even read this before. Here it goes :-

The Cracked Pot

A water bearer had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the masters house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his masters house.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."

"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"

"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your masters house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts." The pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the masters house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again the Pot apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pots side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my masters table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house."

None in the world is perfect. Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all like the cracked pots. We are living in a world that feeds on perfection. That is why new models of hand phones keep on coming out. There is always a better one. Even the so hype up iPhone is not even perfect. Every thing there is pro and cons. Have you ever see or heard something that don't have any cons? That just shows us one thing. Humans is not perfect. Hand phones is just one of the examples. There are countless of examples.

Well I know of a Person that actually work on our weakness. Just like the man is using the crack pot. He is none other than Jesus. Ta da.... And Jesus is saying that, you might have broken family, hurts in relationship, in big debts, rejection from friends, health problems, financial problems and etc etc, and Jesus said, "Do not worry give all your problems to me, I'll be more than happy to take it all away from you. Heck, I'll even hold a party the moment you surrender your problems to Me." And even that you think you are in good times, He want to give you even better times.

So if we will allow it, the Jesus will use our flaws to grace His Fathers table. In Gods great economy, nothing goes to waste. Don't be afraid of your flaws. Acknowledge Him, and you too can be the cause of beauty. Because Jesus said, "Know that in our weakness we find our strength."

And He(Jesus) said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."..... For When I am weak, then I am strong [2 Corinthians 12:9,10]
